Fuel injectors are a very precision component of your engine. They are responsible for maximum performance, economy and low emissions. Dirty injectors cause rough running, hesitation, poor economy and increased emissions.

	Injector 1 shows low volume. Injectors 2-3-4 and 6 show poor spray patterns. Injector 5 is correct in volume and spray pattern

A dirty injector can cause a small amount of fuel to leak from the injector. This increases fuel consumption and causes lower economy. This also causes a problem referred to as "Coking".

Coking is a build up of soft carbon deposits on the valves and pistons. This build up absorbs fuel and causes reduced performance, economy and increased emissions.

This absorption and leaking causes raw fuel to drain down the cylinder walls into the oil. This diluted oil looses lubrication value and causes premature wear of vital engine components such as valves, camshafts, lifters, crankshafts and bearings. This in turn causes major engine damage and repair cost.

The # 1 cause of dirty injectors is bad fuel. Bad fuel can be old, contaminated and just poor quality. You have no idea where the fuel came from before you put it into your tank.

If don't think fuel quality is a problem, stop and think about the ads you see on TV from the major oil companies touting their fuel additives that make their fuel better than the other oil companies. Next time your at the fuel station stop inside and look at the additives for sale. Most of them are made by the same oil companies that made the fuel!
